PPE for COVID Real Estate Safety

Following Covid real estate safety meaures can keep you and your clients healthy during  property showings and inspections.

That’s why you need to make safety your priority. As we’re all well aware, to prevent the spread of COVID, the City of Calgary has made wearing masks in public mandatory. In addition to wearing masks, we’re all gotten used to receiving instructions for safety protocols. Safety protocols are everywhere – grocery stores,  hairdressers,  and dentist/doctor’s. Fortunately, you can protect your  health and the health of your clients by creating your own safety protocol checklist for property showings and inspections.

Although Covid real estate safety during property showings and inspections have mandatory regulations, multi-residential buildings are an exception. Since they are not considered accessible to the public.

Covid Real Estate Safety Questions

Before scheduling a showing, or conducting an inspection, you won’t be surprised to know you are required to ask the same three questions you’ve been asked at your doctors appointments:

1. Have you recently traveled outside of the country/province?

2. Have you been in contact with someone who has recently traveled outside of the country/province?

3. Do you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or are feeling ill at all?

If the answers to any of these three questions is positive, reschedule. You can then ask to schedule a date when they have either received a negative test result or have  self-quarantined for the prescribed safety period and are symptom free.

Covid Saftey Precautions

During your initial phone call/email/text, include a reminder that you are following Covid real estate safety precautions.  Do let people know that everyone must wear a mask. As an added precaution, you may also want to bring disposable masks in case people forget to bring their own.  Also providing a friendly reminder about social distancing is important to include.  Since the number of people allowed into a property is limited – remember this includes current occupants and children. Therefore, be sure to enforce the social distancing protocol during the showing/inspection.

Although hand sanitizer and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is optional  for Covid real estate safety, its a good idea to safeguard the property and prevent any contamination. For added measure, bring disinfectant wipes to sanitize all high contact areas both before and after the showing/inspection.

Social Distancing During Real Estate Showings

Lastly, if the potential tenants have questions, feel free to move to an outdoor space or larger common areas.   Doing this allows social distancing to be well maintained.

In closing, is  following Covid real estate safety measures is time consuming and cumbersome? Yes!  The alternative – sickness and death are considerably less appealing. In the end, we all have to make an effort in preventing COVID by establishing our own safety protocols for showings/inspections.  Let’s all do our part in putting COVID behind us.
